Detailed description

Picture "FEMINISM 3" (2021)

"Feminism 3" shows a self-confident young woman in a miniskirt and with a cigar, sitting on a red armchair, looking straight ahead at the viewer. Behind her is a painting with a plant motif on a gray wall, real plant leaves break out from behind the frame. A fluffy toy jumps in front of the person's shoes. An oblique beam of light emphasizes her presence. The picture embodies self-determination and plays with symbols: the cigar as a sign of freedom, the plants emerging from behind the frame for growth, the flummi as a symbol of movement.

About Birgit Horn

Birgit Horn is an internationally exhibiting artist from near Hamburg.
As a freelance artist, she addresses issues in her realistic oil paintings, which she illuminates from different perspectives in her series of pictures. Her paintings are the result of her thoughts and feelings about the current social situation. Questions such as "What can we do differently as human beings?", "What can we change as a community?" and "How do we deal with our world?" are at the heart of her artistic exploration. Before creating each painting, she develops scenes, often with symbolic motifs, which serve as the basis for her oil paintings. The motifs manifest themselves on the canvas in a realistic and detailed manner. She uses surrealistic elements in her art, consciously employs contrasts and color breaks, integrates screen printing elements and manipulates proportions to capture the viewer's attention. In her own words, she explains: "I want to reach people with my brushstrokes and contribute to reflection on the world around us." Her art has been shown nationally and internationally, including in the USA (Miami, New York), South Korea (Geoje), Poland (Wagrowiec) and Germany (Wiesbaden, Cologne, Hamburg, Lüneburg, Dortmund, Stuttgart).
