Detailed description

Picture "Harbour silhouette" (2022)

Hamburg is a source of inspiration for me. I often take walks along the banks of the Elbe and discover the harbor with always new scenery. It is its rainy days, filled with wetness and haze, which suddenly give rise to atmospheric changes. They result in a sum of colors that I process in my paintings. When the fog comes and covers everything with its cloak of tulle, making even the big containers and cranes disappear, it's a motif I can draw from. It is my Hamburg in gray. The side edges of the picture are also painted.

About Carolina Villagra-Roth

Born in Santiago de Chile. There studied graphic design with a focus on painting and subsequently scholarship in visual techniques.
In 1992 moved to Germany. This was followed by cultural stays in London, Paris, St. Moritz, Florence, Berlin, Salamanca and Venice. I live in Hamburg and work there in my own studio. Hamburg is a source of inspiration for me. I often take walks along the banks of the Elbe River and discover the harbor with ever-changing scenery. It is its rainy days filled with wetness and haze that suddenly create atmospheric changes. They result in a sum of colors that I process in my paintings. When the fog comes and covers everything with its cloak of tulle, making even the big containers and cranes disappear, it's a motif I can draw from. It is my Hamburg in gray. In my series of trees I have tried to capture the different shapes and colors, the strength they have. I interpret nature and paint it only as I feel it, they are memories of walks through the forests of northern Germany, where I live. With all the magic of nature that surrounds me. Birds are another subject I like to work on. It's their different species, their colors, their tireless singing, their movement and speed. It just captivates me to try and capture all of that.
