Detailed description

Picture "Becoming and passing away" (2025)

This painting shows a tree stump from the middle of which a new, delicate tree shoot with colorful, bright leaves is growing. Strong color gradients of the background, ranging from greenish to intense blue tones, convey a lively and at the same time mystical atmosphere. The tree stump appears organic and undulating, which reveals references to the natural forms of Art Nouveau. The contrast between the dead wood and the new life can be interpreted as a symbol of renewal, growth and the cycles of nature. The work was inspired by walks in the woods and an exploration of the resilience of nature, the ability of life to reinvent itself in seemingly inhospitable places. There is a connection to Romanticism, as this also depicted themes such as the sublimity and return of nature. The work is signed/dated on the back.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
