Detailed description

Picture "coffee to go" (2011)

The work shows a coffee cup lying in the desert near a settlement, where it has obviously been thrown away. The painting was inspired by the artist's regular visits to a coffee shop in Palm Springs and his thoughts about where these cups often end up. However, the idea is not implemented as a warning, but the coffee cup is placed in the desert landscape like a modern sculpture and elevated to the status of a work of art itself. Even thought-provoking or problematic issues are presented aesthetically in this artistic realization and can thus be communicated.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
