Picture "Del Marcos hotel" (2010)
The picture shows the front view of the Del Marcos Hotel in Palm Springs, California, an icon of midcentury modern architecture of the 1950s. It is part of my series about Palm Springs and life in the desert there. The surrounding landscape flows in through the reflection in the glazed door and window and refers to the fragility and transience of a place in the middle of a desert. The strong colors result from the typical clear light of the desert.
About Heinz Stoewer
In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it.
Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works.
My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas.
With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
