Detailed description

Picture "framed virgin canvas" (2022)

Various irregular shapes in shades of blue, brown and dark pink are scattered across the painting, their color variations partially obscuring a framed white, virgin canvas. In the center of the picture, tree structures can be seen in the blue forms, which seem to grow from the edges into the center. For the viewer, this creates another level of the picture or a view through to a landscape suggested by these structures. There is an interplay between the abstract and the real. The inspiration for this work, which is part of a series with similar motifs, comes from impressions from nature, in particular from old or bare trees that sometimes stand like sculptures in the landscape. The work is signed and dated on the back.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
