Detailed description

Picture "Halifax harbor" (2013)

The work shows a reflection of water in shades of brown, black and green. The painting was inspired by the sight of a harbor wall covered with shells and algae by the sea in Halifax, Canada. The movement of the water blurs the mirrored contours, creating a seemingly abstract water world. The mirrored parts of the harbor wall become something new and not immediately recognizable through the movements, and thus something completely independent is created through the painting. The strong colors of the picture reinforce this alienating impression. The picture is signed and dated on the back.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
