Detailed description

Picture "Ocotillo in front of yellow wall" (2009)

The work shows a detailed view of an ocotillo cactus in front of a bright yellow painted wall and is part of the artist's series of works thematizing Palm Springs in the Californian desert. The cactus looks like a modern sculpture against the yellow background of the wall and the dry branches appear almost surreal. The painter's fascination with these cacti, which have adapted to the hostile nature of the desert and bear small green leaves and large fiery red flowers after rain in winter, is palpable. A rather calm, quiet picture despite the bright yellow of the wall. It is dated and signed on the back!

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
