Detailed description

Sculpture "Venus Moon" (2020)

The artist has spent a lot of time on astronomy. It belongs to his interest in nature with its phenomena. He knows that Venus has no moon. But what does the title stand for? More about that below. The small sculpture is made of birch wood. It follows in the shaping like some other of his sculptures the infinite Moebius' loop. It has a surface on which one can reach any position without having to jump over an edge. The form is ultimately an expression of a cosmic idea of infinity, which here has been put into a sensuous graceful form. In an ancient natural philosophy, the birch was assigned to Venus in its delicacy and beauty. But the sculpture is really too small for a whole planet. So a Venus moon was created with it. This is mounted on a piece of granite. The dimensions are without this piece, which of course belongs.

About Michael Rofka

Basically, I work in various media, with sculpture or sculpture takes a central role.
Increasingly important, however, are also land art projects on an international level. But I also paint and am musically active. Interdisciplinarity is important to me. Figurative elements are found only exceptionally and if these are rather plant forms. I have always been interested in natural science and nature forms a thematic center. For my sculptures I like to look for stones and wood in nature. However, I use steel or copper and also like to combine materials. The shaping of the sculptures follows on the one hand formal, geometric considerations, on the other hand it is found in a creative artistic work process. I am particularly interested in flow forms.
