Detailed description

Picture "Woman with fish (soul catch)" (2013)

The fish symbolizes the soul; a woman in a confused, tense situation. She is holding on to her soul so that it does not get lost. The picture with the sand-colored background is the second version of this motif, the first version with the red background was created about 1 year before.

About Ralf Schmidt

There is a dialog between my works: you have "saved" the works you have already created, and when you create a work, the idea for the next work automatically forms in the back of your mind.
In my works, I try to make the inside visible through the outside: just as in some paintings outer landscapes are inner landscapes, my externally detailed depictions of people/things represent inner realities. People "on their way" or taking a decisive step from one stage of life to another are a recurring motif in my work.
