Detailed description

Sculpture "Sculpture 761" (2014)

The artist uses numerous basic materials in her sculptures, starting with cellulose, wood, metal and many other materials. Despite this multitude of materials, some of which are quite heavy, the objects always exhibit a great lightness, which is actually reflected in their low weight. Nevertheless, the workmanship often gives the impression of bronze-like material. There is also a certain resistance to weathering. By using found objects, mostly wood, the figures are connected to nature and represent a snapshot of its metamorphic development. The static state of the sculptures is thus at odds with the dynamism of the process of creation.

About Christa Riemann

Christa Riemann was born in Düsseldorf and studied painting and graphics at the Freie Akademie Rhein-Ruhr.
Her work has been shown in many galleries, solo and group exhibitions. In her mostly large-format works, she shows insights into the nature of animals and impressions of nature. Her pictures are multi-layered and constructed with an exciting dramaturgy. If you had previously doubted that animals have a personality, her works will prove you wrong. She shows the individual as a creature with a soul and thus sets a clear counterpoint to the widespread social understanding of animals as livestock. Emotional animal portraits and colorful, nuanced works are representative of her extensive collection of paintings. Christa Riemann's paintings are the result of a respectful love of animals, coupled with a great deal of curiosity about their mysterious personalities and individuals. At the same time, her portraits are also to be understood as a protest against today's form of factory farming. In her sculptures, she uses numerous basic materials, starting with cellulose, wood, metal and many other materials. Despite this variety of materials, some of which are quite heavy, the objects always exhibit a great lightness, which is actually reflected in their low weight. Nevertheless, the workmanship often gives the impression of bronze-like material. There is also a certain resistance to weathering. By using found objects, mostly wood, the figures are connected to nature and represent a snapshot of its metamorphic development. The static state of the sculptures is thus at odds with the dynamics of the process of creation.
