Detailed description

Picture "Geisha 18" (2010)

First quality, highly pigmented acrylic paints, on 4 cm deep canvas. Figurative style.. impressionism. The sides are painted through, so that it can also be hung without a frame. The painting is ready to hang. During my stay in Tokyo, I came into contact with geishas, whom I came across at various temples. I made sketches of them on the spot. Back in my studio I worked out the sketches. This resulted in a series of paintings. The individual remains unrecognizable, the face averted, the persons incomplete. Because of these cut-outs I create extra space for interpretation, it stimulates the imagination. There is abstraction in the details. Up close you can enjoy a colorful range of shapes, surfaces and lines that are hidden in the kimonos.
