Detailed description

Sculpture "Figurine VII" (2019)

Figurine No. VII Work from my series "Bodies and Fragments" Sculpture made of stoneware clay, fired and processed with cold colors and pigments. Creation process of my sculptures I work the clay by following the property of the material. I consciously leave cracks, or tear it in the leather-hard state again. The earthy structures of the clay I let visibly flow into my works.thereby I notice again and again, how the clay works in itselfand what structures it brings forth, especially when using great heat. It is important to me that the work process remains visible

About Ilona Schmidt

Since 2007 I have devoted myself to free artistic studies, with a focus on painting and sculpture.
My works have been presented in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and have been nominated and awarded several times. I have been a member of the Professional Association for Fine Artists since 2013. In my paintings and sculptures I try to capture the complexity of the human being. By using different techniques and materials, I create works that appeal to the emotions and thoughts of the viewer and stimulate reflection. My artistic work is characterized by a deep engagement with people and their environment. I explore the relationships between the individual and society, between body and mind, between past and present. My aim is to use my art to build a bridge between the viewer and the subject matter depicted. I want to arouse emotions, raise questions and provide food for thought. Because for me, art is not only an expression of my own thoughts and feelings, but also a medium for making contact with other people and inspiring them.
