Detailed description

Sculpture "Hammerhead Shark" (2023)

This spectacular object was made from the tropical precious wood wenge. It is unique in its depiction and stands as a monument to the hunting of endangered animal species and the deforestation of endangered tree species. It is therefore one of the key pieces in my series "The last of their kind - endangered animals from endangered wood species". With my work, I want to make things tangible that otherwise seem so distant to us. This also includes the wounds that I gave the object along the way. The wounding of my artworks and the sanding down to new forms is part of my unique artistic process and is intended to provoke, amaze and stimulate thought.

About Marcus Meyer

Marcus Meyer has been working as an artist and sculptor since 1993.
During this time he has participated in numerous art exhibitions and installations. (Industralized Being- Simone Menne Gallery, Polar Bear- Kiel, parts of Gegenward- Kronshagen) His sculptural studies are mainly concerned with the themes of man and nature. As a visionary, he assembles a wooden blank from many individual parts, from which he then works out the expressive form of the subject in sculptural activity.
