Detailed description

Sculpture "The blue shark" (2017)

"The Blue Shark" is part of the series "The Last of Their Kind". This series reflects on mankind's use of its limited resources - we rarely know the story behind what we buy and consume. The Blue Shark focuses attention on the fragile ecosystem of our oceans, an arena for the scale of man-made challenges for the future. The selection of endangered wood species in "The last of their kind" expands the sculpture's scope. The use of partly imported and endangered types of wood does not ignore their uncertain proof of origin despite the existing certificates. In contrast, the hunter roams the blue expanses with calm elegance. The dynamism of the sculpture is given a special presence in the room by the bright red of the African bubinga wood. The bubinga wood used is one of the endangered woods of our time and thus becomes part of the artistic-content interaction.

About Marcus Meyer

Marcus Meyer has been working as an artist and sculptor since 1993.
During this time he has participated in numerous art exhibitions and installations. (Industralized Being- Simone Menne Gallery, Polar Bear- Kiel, parts of Gegenward- Kronshagen) His sculptural studies are mainly concerned with the themes of man and nature. As a visionary, he assembles a wooden blank from many individual parts, from which he then works out the expressive form of the subject in sculptural activity.
