Picture "Simone (de Beauvoir) - en avance sur son temps" (2022)
Work from the series of pictures "Courage Strength Resilience - lifelines of extraordinary women". The work was created after I read the biography of Simone de Beauvoir and her most famous work. De Beauvoir influenced and initiated many discussions in feminism and pioneered women's and gender studies. Book pages from de Beauvoir's well-known book, Le deuxième sexe, were used as the background for the painting. Abstraction and figuration unite in this work. The translucent book pages in her face represent the merging of external appearance with our own individual ideology and world of thought. For this mixed media work I used acrylic paints, graphite, oil pastels, tissue paper and the book pages for the background. The work has deliberately plastic parts through the collaged background. The varnish is glossy.
