Picture "The bather IV - walk the line" (2023)
The series "The Bathers" is about the representation of self-confident and strong women, who are depicted in primarily gaudy colors (in pop art style) in swimwear. At first glance, the viewer recognizes only the colorfully depicted bathing scene. A snapshot that can raise thoughts on topics such as femininity, freedom and emancipation of women. Only on closer inspection does another socially critical theme become apparent, such as an ecological question or a reference to a political or social issue of the day. The title "walk the line" here refers to the idea of staying true to oneself, of walking one's OWN path, even if that path may be polarizing.... For the mixed media work I used acrylic paint, graphite, oil pastels and plastic masses. The picture has a light structure.
