Detailed description

Picture "Lake Tahoe" (2004)

The work was inspired by the painter's numerous visits to Lake Tahoe, a large lake on the border of California and Nevada, where he was particularly fascinated by the ancient Sequoia trees. In this painting, he has placed these trees like sculptures in the barren landscape, bringing them into focus. The yellowish color of the sky forms a contrast to the grey rock formations and makes the scenery with the grey mirror of the lake appear in an almost unreal light. The loneliness and vastness of this landscape is palpable for the viewer. The work is dated and signed on the reverse.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer and banker in favor of painting, which has been the center of my life ever since.
I live in Bad Tölz and Palm Springs, California. My painting varies between real images and abstraction, where the interplay of form and color, that is, the painting itself is as much at the center of my work as the message. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people, especially male bodies or sections of them, are focal points in my work series. The influence of the flood of images on the Internet on us and our self-perception is questioned and the equality of alternative lifestyles is important to me. I am inspired by various media, my own experience and everything that happens around me.
