Detailed description

Picture "Manzanita" (2019)

On his mountain hikes in California's San Jacinto Wilderness, the artist has repeatedly seen manzanita bushes, which are striking for their special branch structures and their reddish wood. Fascinated by these branch structures, they became the basis for this painting, which, however, completely deviates from a naturalistic representation in its color scheme. The other elements such as leaves and background are also creative inspiration and not real. The chosen main colors of light blue and purple give the painting its own, almost surreal mood, which nevertheless reflects the harmony of nature. The work is signed and dated on the reverse.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer and banker in favor of painting, which has been the center of my life ever since.
I live in Bad Tölz and Palm Springs, California. My painting varies between real images and abstraction, where the interplay of form and color, that is, the painting itself is as much at the center of my work as the message. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people, especially male bodies or sections of them, are focal points in my work series. The influence of the flood of images on the Internet on us and our self-perception is questioned and the equality of alternative lifestyles is important to me. I am inspired by various media, my own experience and everything that happens around me.
