Detailed description

Picture "Remnants and traces" (2023)

This oil painting was painted for the Sparkasse Karlsruhe 2023 art competition with the theme "Without masks" and was then selected by the jury for the art prize exhibition from over 500 applications and then exhibited. The work deals with the consequences of the corona pandemic in retrospect and shows, on the one hand, the relief that the masks can be hung up and, on the other hand, that the traces are still present in us and in nature in a very real way. Only on closer inspection does one recognize the mask hanging from a tree structure in the freely swinging forms of the painting. The choice of colors underlines this feeling of relief and the light-heartedness that is now slowly returning.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer + banker in favor of painting, which has now been the focus of my life for 25 years after training as an artist.
My painting varies between realistic depictions and abstraction, whereby the interplay of form and color, i.e. the painting itself, is just as central to my work as the messages behind it. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people are the focus of my series of works. My painting is inspired by the media, the flood of images on the Internet, the nature that surrounds us and personal experiences and encounters. It is always surprising to me when and where the pictures arise in my head that then find their way onto the canvas. With my work I want to inspire, make people curious and thoughtful, and touch them.
