Detailed description

Picture "Remnants and traces" (2023)

This oil painting was painted for Sparkasse Karlsruhe's 2023 art competition with the theme "Without masks" and was then selected by the jury for the art prize exhibition from over 500 applications. The work deals with the consequences of the corona pandemic in retrospect and shows, on the one hand, the relief that the masks can be hung up and, on the other hand, that the traces are still present in us and in nature in a very real way. Only on closer inspection does one recognize the mask hanging from a tree structure in the freely swinging forms of the painting. The choice of colors underlines this feeling of relief and the light-heartedness that is now slowly returning.

About Heinz Stoewer

In my early 40s, I ended my career as a lawyer and banker in favor of painting, which has been the center of my life ever since.
I live in Bad Tölz and Palm Springs, California. My painting varies between real images and abstraction, where the interplay of form and color, that is, the painting itself is as much at the center of my work as the message. Water reflections, nature-inspired themes and images of people, especially male bodies or sections of them, are focal points in my work series. The influence of the flood of images on the Internet on us and our self-perception is questioned and the equality of alternative lifestyles is important to me. I am inspired by various media, my own experience and everything that happens around me.
