How can the artistic act still be made interesting and new in a time of sensory overload through ubiquitous depiction of nudity? I have been devoting myself to this question for a long time. One possible answer - my answer - is the idea of making the figure disappear from my oil paintings by carving it out of the painting support at the end of the painting process. Instead of recognizable individuals, this creates stripped surfaces in the wood. These allow the viewer to make his or her own interpretation of the figure. At the same time, this technique questions our habits of seeing and our deeply stored ideals of beauty.
