Detailed description
Picture "Aymara RED" (2021)
This painting is inspired by the Aymara culture that lives on Lake Titicaca in South America. The Aymara culture is characterized by its ancient mysticism and the structure of its textiles. Young indigenous women carry their babies with an "aguayu" on their backs. These garments are still woven by themselves, and the information about them is passed on orally from mothers to daughters. In the combination of their colors as well as their width, they are read as codes. So you can more or less decipher the age, region, marital status, intellectual level, whether she has children and how many and much more information about who it belongs to. It is said that in the textile there must be color gradients and combinations that remind of the rainbow that connects the sky with the earth, but it must not have the typical colors of the rainbow so that it stops being an illusion. And, what do the colors mean to you?
