Picture "New Giverny" (2023)
Using the best pigments, which Yo mixes in poppy seed oil to create her own oil paints, the artist created this work inspired by Giverny. Monet painted his famous water lilies in the garden of Giverny in Normandy, to which Yo Franklin is always drawn. Yo paints outdoors in Giverny, guided by the light and the intoxication of color. The representational becomes increasingly abstract until the painting is reduced to its colors and light. In Giverny, Yo Franklin explored the possibilities of natural sunlight so that the garden and the water could shine in all their glory. Nature and gardens are a recurring theme for the artist, who is also a keen gardener. Yo makes the high-quality canvas for all her works herself. Here on a double stretcher frame with a thin plywood panel and canvas. The edges are accurately finished in white so that the work can be hung immediately.
