Picture "Michel and U3" (2023)
The Michel is a landmark of Hamburg, the painter's home town. This church, which is actually called St. Michael's, can be seen in the background. In front of it you can see two subway trains on the U3 line. This line runs through the middle of the city, very close to the houses. The painter has created a very intense little piece of art here on wood she has primed herself. The entire picture is painted in two layers of oil paint, giving it luminosity and depth. Underneath is a blue-grey primer on which Ulla Kutter has created the preliminary drawing in white pencil. Kutter's powers of observation come to the fore: the lights on the tracks, the reflections in the windows of the houses and the train make this small picture very dynamic, urban and lively. Recognizable brushstrokes give an idea of how it was created.
